SUNSCREEN WARNING
FOR ALL SOLACOAT TOPCOATS, COOL-IT CERAM AND SOLASTEEL
Coolshield advises that anyone who handles coated sheets (coil paint) from the point of coating, through forming operations, to interim storage, to transport and installation should either not use sunscreens that contain nano (or micro) particles OR if either in doubt as to whether the sunscreen may or may not incorporate these nano (or micro) particles; then wear impervious gloves so as to not permit any sunscreen material to contact any surface that is coated. Coolshield will not cover any warranty claims where it is proven that the product was handled whilst a sunscreen had been used by the applicator having nano particles.
The (nano) titanium dioxide used in sunscreens are of the uncoated type and due to their very large surface area promote very rapid coating breakdown potential. It is expected that (nano) zinc oxide could perform in an analogous manner.
Certain "pigments" can have a very substantial effect upon the exterior durability of paint coatings. Titanium dioxide has been well known for over four decades that photo-catalytic degradation occurs with UV radiation via the surface of the titanium dioxide pigment particle.
As a result virtually ALL titanium dioxide pigments used in exterior coatings are of the coated rutile crystal type of pigment. The coatings which can be silica, aluminium oxide, zirconium oxide either alone or in combination with one another are commonly used. This very much retards the photo catalytic cause effect of rapid coating breakdown.
